THAT SUMMER:

Steve Brodie (Ray Winstone) fresh out of Borstal  heads to Torquay for the summer to take part in the "round the bay" swimming race,
once there he befriends the son of a butcher from London named Jimmy (Tony London) and together they start dating a pair of young
Northern girls working as hotel chambermaids.

However, their fun is interrupted by a gang of Scottish lads out tocause trouble for Steve and prevent him from taking part in the race.
